Lessons from 4-H

I was a 10 year 4-H member. I was in 4-H from 3rd grade through 12th grade. I learned SO much from the program. I had opportunities to lead on my club level, within the county where I lived, on the state level and even soem opportunities on the national level. As a growing teenager there were so many awesome leadership moments that I was able to experience through the 4-H program.

I now have the privelege to get to share 4-H with my kids. My oldest completed his first year in 4-H this year. He gets to take 2 of his 3 projects to the Ohio State Fair next month. Seeing the excitement and how proud he was of this accomplishment meant the world to me. He did such a great job trying something new, making some new friends and learning things along the way.

Skills I have learned through 4-H:

🟩 Public speaking and being comfortable talking with judges
🟩 Creativity through design work on posters
🟩 Teamwork skills fostered through collaborating with people who are different from me and finding common ground
🟩 Time management to complete projects in time for judging
🟩 Sense of wonder and curiousity about the world around me

As a parent you always want your child(ren) to grow and learn and have even better experiences than you hard growing up. I hope that my children know that the time and effort we, as parents, spend on giving them a well rounded opportunities will help them grow into amazing leaders in the future.
