Back to School Routine
We are officially back in school.

We are officially back in school. 〰️
That is crazy to think about and write, but it is true. We had 11 weeks of summer break. It was a wonderful time and honestly I think it went really well. Our kids stayed home this summer, the first time our two older children, were home all summer. My husband and I work from home and so with that privilege we decided to try to keep the boys home. Honestly, overall, I would call it a success. We all found a routine and system that worked for us. Well now that we estabilished that summer routine of slower days and less commitments, it is time to head back to school.
With this back to school season I was thinking through the milestones my kids are now achieving. My oldest is able to cook and prepare some foods in the kitchen. The middle son is responsible for chores like unloading the dishwasher, collecting trash and cleaning bathrooms. Even my youngest son can now help get the mail, clear the table and help pickup toys in the basement. It is crazy that they are another year older and time just keeps moving forward.
With this return to school comes all the activities and commitments in the evenings after school. Our family participates in sports - in the fall it is soccer and in the spring it is lacrosse. Throughout the year my kids are involved with Cub Scouts and 4-H. I have been wanting to get them in music lessons which is a goal here for the end of 2026. All these extra curricular activities are balanced between school and of course family time. It can be a lot, but I think these activities help build character, teach life lessons, and create a variety of friendships.
So as we wind down summer this month and jump into school routines, just pause, take a moment and appreciate your kids - how big they have gotten, what they have learned and how they have grown in the last few months. This time moves fast and I always appreciate slowing down and appreciating where we are today.
